Over the past several
years I have used various scripts to showcase my photography.
Some of the scripts below are very easy to install while others
require a database and are a bit more advanced. Below are links to
my site and then below each link is a link to that script or
program used on that page. I feel a picture says a 1000 words
and so does an example of a script.
There is some basic information written under the links but it
is best to read the script information on the developer's website
if my installation and experience interests you.
PHP Image Script
(Very Simple Installation)
Example Currently Not Posted
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=PHP+Image+Gallery
Download the Zip file
and unzip it. Upload several small files to your web server and
upload your images to a specific folder. The script sees all
images and creates the navigation on the fly. No thumbnails.
Photo titles are located in a text file. Jeroen's website has a
forum and has helpful information if you need any assistance.
Photo navigation is done with javascript so clicking on the
Browser's Back Button moves you back 1 page and does not work with
images. This script is especially good if you have smaller
images.
FHImage (Very Simple Installation)
http://yellowecho.com/travel/becker_hollow/becker_hollow.htm
http://www.flash-here.com/downloads/fhimage.html
Upload several small
files to your web server and upload your images to a specific
folder. This script creates the thumbnails on the fly and the
photo title is the file name. Also supports multiple folders
where each folder can be used as a separate directory. If you
need to block a server folder (as in the case with FrontPage users)
there is explanation on how to do it in the FHImage Forum.
PHP Slideshow (Simple Installation)
http://www.yellowecho.com/travel/platte_clove/gallery1/phpslideshow.php
http://www.zinkwazi.com/scripts
This script is similar
to PHP Image script with the page navigation and clicking on the image
for the next one to appear. It differs that this script offers an
automatic
slideshow and allows for thumbnails. Also each image has a
permalink in the address bar so pressing the Browser's back
button takes you back 1 photo. Thumbnails are created by
the user and then uploaded to a folder where the script can
read them. My example does not have thumbnails.
Flash Image Rotator
(Medium Installation)
http://www.yellowecho.com (upper right slideshow of images)
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash+JPG+Rotator
This is a great
script! This is a simple Flash script that uses a XML file. I
gave it a medium installation because it requires embedding
Flash in a webpage with size parameters. Also it is best that
all your images (named in XML file) are the same size. There is
even different transitions between images. Two Cameras Up!
Untidy Photo Album (Simple Installation/ Paid Script)
http://www.yellowecho.com/...
...idy.php?&screen_width=1024&screen_height=579
http://martin.protgp.com/untidy/index.php
All images in a folder will pop up on the screen and can be
moved with the mouse. I use this script for an into to my
webpage.
HTML (Coded with FrontPage)
http://www.yellowecho.com/travel/brooklyn_bridge_06.html
Not to be confused with the built-in FrontPage photo galleries. This
was created in 'Design View' with tables and cells.
Pixelpost
(Advanced Installation/ Database Required)
Offline Currently
http://www.pixelpost.org/
This is a photoblog
script that requires a database. There is an admin section for
uploading photos and the script creates the thumbnail. Comments
per photo are written in the admin. Users can also leave
comments and there is a plug-in so users can rate individual
photos. Photos can be assigned with different keywords for easy
indexing.
PTViewer (Medium Installation/ Read this
page for
installation instructions)
http://www.yellowecho.com/360/monumentvalley-ptviewer-page.htm
http://www.fsoft.it/panorama/ptviewer.htm
http://users2.ev1.net/~wufdog/PT/ptviewerscripting/_ptViewer_Start.htm
I liked PTViewer before high speed internet. But now with more
people having high speed I prefer the QuickTime VR. It is still best
to offer visitors different options for viewing 360 degree photos.
B2Evolution (Simple Installation with Fantastico)
Currently Offline
http://b2evolution.net/
I used B2Evolution to announce updates to my website. The CSS file can be
easily change to change font colors and such.
However
Wordpress is
much better and has better spam controls. My
Update Blog is
powered by Wordpress.
Exhibit Engine
http://photography-on-the.net/ee/index.php
I was going to install this script as I liked the way the navigation
worked. However this script has a lot of options and is best suited
for
people who would like to host all there photos with 1 script. You
can see this script in action at
KingPano's
website.
From the Developer's Website: "The Exhibit Engine is a PHP/MySQL application for smooth and
versatile online photograph display. It's especially designed to
give detailed technical info on each photo, with text descriptions
and gear info, but all that technical data is not required."
