Yahoo Babel Fish: French to English Translation

February 15, 2010

Recently I noticed incoming link activity from a website in French. The increase web activity was to one of my Brooklyn Bridge pages. Because it was in Frencj I did not know what was being written regarding my photo. So I used the Yahoo Babel Fish online translator and I was able to determine what was written.

En attendant que je poste mes images dans la galerie du site, voici un lien vers quelques photos… et un autre lien vers de superbes photos du pont la nuit.

English Translation:

While waiting for that I post my images in the gallery of the site, here a bond towards some photographs… and another bond towards superb photographs of the bridge the night.

It seems like this is what was written regarding my Brooklyn Bridge photos:  “superb photographs of the bridge the night.”

Superb is a nice adjective. Merci

Tribute in Light 2009

September 13, 2009

Tags: , ,

It rained throughout the day and night on 9/11. This year I was hoping to get a photo from the Top of the Rock (Rockfellar Center). The clouds were very low causing the lights to be blocked throughout much of the night and making an image impossible.

Shelly Simo 360

I photographed Shelly in late January. Her scheduled permitted me to have 1 hour. I was able to stretch to 1 hour and 15 minutes. I shot a 360 of her in various wigs at the Morgans Hotel located in Manhattan. The theme was a hotel party going out of control. In the final 360 image there are 18 Shelly’s. My favorite is the video I put together with all the photographs in a time-lapse sequence.

Yellowecho.com Stats for 2008

January 13, 2009

Tags:

Yellowecho has 2 distinct websites- an older version and a new version of Yellowecho. The new version is a PHP driven website which runs Gallery2 and WordPress (the current page you are viewing). While I refer to the second version as older it is still fully intact and works perfectly and does in fact receive alot of web traffic. The older version are  HTML pages which were the main webpages of Yellowecho from 1999 to 2007. On both pages (old and new) I utilize StatCounter to keep track of website statistics.

Yellowecho.com (new): The newer page has grown in the past few months and sees a daily average of 33 unique visitors each day (December 2008). This number continues to rise and I expect by the end of 2009 to be well over 50 visitors a day on the average. Yellowecho (old) still sees a massive amount of people (see below) as compared to the newer site.

Yellowecho.com (old): Many of these pages have been online since 2000 and these pages see a daily average of 309 visitors (Jan- Dec 2008). Some pages do predate Yellowecho.com and have been online since 1999. Yellowecho saw on the average over 300 unique people per day in 2008. This average is based on the full calender year of 2008. The total number of unique visitors was over 110.000. There are several notable spikes in web traffic. One is in September and that is because of increased Google web searches related to 9/11 and the NYC Tribute in Light which Yellowecho scores very high on Google searches. Another increased search is Death Valley and the flower bloom during the springtime in which this site again scores highly on with Google searches.

The single biggest day total was September 11, 2008 and on that day Yellowecho had 1,177 unique visitors with 2,873 page views.

New Year’s 2009 Photography Resolution

January 13, 2009

Tags:

1. To photograph in at least one of my remaining ‘photoless’ continental states. I have been to all of the states that make up the continental United States. However I do not have photographs in each of these 48 states. I ‘lost’ my photographs from South Carolina and North Dakota because of backup issues and a virus. And in New Hampshire and Vermont I do not have a photograph taken. The 2 states I have not been to are Hawaii and Alaska.

South Carolina, North Dakota, Vermont, New Hampshire

2. Take a VR 360 from the top of the Empire State Building
3. Upgrade to a ‘fullframe’ digital DSLR camera
4. Display my work in a public forum (other than the internet)

_____________

I should be able to complete the above 4 resolutions. It would be fantastic if I could complete #1 all together. However North Dakota could be difficult. I was in Fargo and did shop at a Best Buy in Fargo several years back. I do remember taking pictures of brand new townehouses in Fargo. However those Fargo photos were lost because of a virsus. I would like to add a number 5 to the above… photograph Washington DC (again). However that would fall on a 2009- 2010 wishlist.

It has been about a week since I signed up for Flickr and I really like it. Flickr has  done a terrific job with the backend of their online application of uploading and showcaseing peoples photos. It is very simple and there is a huge online community of Flickr users.

Here is a Flickr link of my favorites photos of fellow Flickr users:

Best of 2008

January 5, 2009

It seems like everyone has a ‘Best of’ list at the end of the year. I thought perhaps it would be good to reflect on my photography of the past year and compile a Best of 2008 list.

Of the last decade 2008 had me taking the least amount of photos. There was a time when everywhere I traveled too I had a camera in my hand. (See my Google Map.) As I looked through my photos of 2008 the ‘Top 5 Photo List’ would probably be just Tribute in Light photos from September 11, 2008. I think that that would be too easy and so I picked only one photo from the Tribute in Light to represent that day. Much of the ‘Best of 2008′ list has a 360 image in-connection.

The judge was me. And so the list… (more…)
