The Oregon
National Dunes is the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North
America. It extends 40 miles along the Pacific Ocean from the
Siuslaw River on the north to the Coos River on the south.
At the Oregon National Dunes, many recreation opportunities exist:
hiking through forests and the dunes, riding off-highway vehicles
through the dunes and along the beach of the Pacific Ocean, and
camping.
Accessibility:
The
Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area spans 40 coastline miles from
Florence to North Bend, OR.
Suggestions for your visit:
Wind-sculpted sand dunes towering to
500 feet above sea level provide numerous recreational opportunities
including off-highway vehicle use, hiking, photography, fishing,
canoeing, horseback riding and camping.
If you are looking for adventure, you
can find it amongst the designated sand roads, dunes and forests in
the riding areas. About half of the area that comprises the Oregon
Dunes National Recreation Area and Sand Lake Recreation Area is open
to motorized vehicles. There are several places that rent various
off-road vehicles.
