For over 300 miles the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway (US Highway 101)
has vast sandy beaches, towering dunes, coastal towns, and
beautiful mountain top views of the Pacific Ocean.
Oregon National Dunes
The Oregon
National Dunes is the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North
America. It extends 40 miles along the Pacific Ocean from the Siuslaw
River on the north to the Coos River on the south.
At the Oregon National Dunes, many recreation opportunities exist:
hiking through forests and the dunes, riding off-highway vehicles through
the dunes and along the beach of the Pacific Ocean, and camping.
Florence is located on the northern edge of
the National Dunes Recreation Area. It is a large scaled coastal town with
many hotels, restaurants, and shops. The scenery around Florence is
beautiful and is a good location for exploring the dunes.
